UPDATE - Patient Safety Ambassador Conference

Published 14th March 2016

We previously announced that Speech Advance had been invited to present at Birminghams NHS Trust Patient Safety Ambassador Conference......Well we did it! A presentation was given on the hard decisions that health professionals face about feeding patients at risk. 'Feeding at Risk' refers to patients that are fed small amounts even though their swallow may be disordered or compromised. Some patients that we see have not be appropriate for other means of nutriton but yet struggle to swallow their food and drinks. And these decisions can be hard.

The presentation discussed the importance of the decision process, following pathways, documentation and multidisciplinary involvment of the whole medical/ health professional team. After the presentation a practical workshop took place with the Nutrilis Clear representatives on using thickener in drinks. It allowed people to have hands on experience and to ask questions in an informal setting.

It was a great day! Very informative and everyone was extremely friendly, which always makes it enjoyable!!
